Time to travel. I will be heading over to Europe this weekend, where I know I will find creative inspiration on every corner. I will be there for nearly two weeks and will be splitting my time between London and Prague. Keep on visiting The Altered Page though, as StudioScapes will continue every Sunday while I am away and some additional posts are likely to pop up as well.
When I return, I shall share with you my finds, my photos, and a newly completed travel journal. If any of you would like to suggest must-sees in either London or Prague, please feel free to leave the info in a comment to this post.

Tate Modern late night openings ending with a drink in the upper bar looking out at the city lights, Cass art shop in Islington, the Vermeer rooms in the National Gallery, South Bank for miles of traffic free walks along the riverside, Borough Market on Th Fri+Sat for amazing food, all the Royal stuff if you are into that kind of thing, Hampstead Heath for woodland walks and pond swimming, the V+A museum if you never want to be seen again.......enjoy London!

P.S I just loved Camden Market on the weekend. I found hundreds of little vintage bits and pieces and people watching is the best in Camden Town.

You'll have an amazing time, makes me feel homesick (I'm from the UK originally, near Oxford). I've never visited Prague but it's somewhere I'd love to go. Be sure to take lots of pics of the bridges there and I hear the beers good too.
And get yourself an OYSTER card (mainline stations should sell them or google for info) - it saves you standing in line at the ticket offices and works out cheaper too. V&A museum have a Dale Chihuly in the main entrance, and Beanie's blog has oodles of stuff in London if you have time for a rummage! Number 11 bus from Victoria to st Paul's is worth a ride, sit on the top deck. And Prague is STUNNING!!
PS Oyster cards are used on London subway and buses!!! Brixton Arcade is worth a couple of hours too, if you like carribean stuff. No 2 bus from Victoria, get off at Brixton subway stop and then it's to the corner of the road and turn left!!! Funky wrought iron railings!

Cafes I used to enjoy visiting in London: British Museum entrance hall - under the amazing glass roof - good bookshop there too, and of course, the endless galleries...
Cafe by the Serpentine in Hyde Park - overlooks the water, people skate along on the other side. It's across the bridge from Serpentine gallery, which has shows and bookshop.
Boating cafe near Mosque entrance to Regent's park.
(I'm fond of cafe's by the water!)
Also Garden Cafe in there, in 'Inner Circle', near Rose Garden.
Highgate Woods cafe. Lovely little woods. It's north, off Muswell Hill Rd.
Globe Theatre, on South Bank, good for unique environment moments!
Wetlands, south, over Hammersmith Bridge - good for quiet moments, (except for air traffic...), nice cafe there too.
Alfie's Antique Market in Church St, NW8 - I think you'd enjoy treasure-browsing there.

Have a super cool time over this side of the world! Any of the open top buses are a great way to see the city, you can hop on and off wherever you like.
If you have a day then catch the train down to Brighton on the South Coast. It's about 50mins and takes you to the seaside, super cool stony beach(you can walk for miles) and a wonderful horizon. Have a wander around The Lanes, the oldest part of the town. It has loads of funky hip shops with a real 'art' buzz. Enjoy! Mx

I have not been to Prague but I love London.
Last trip to the UK was when I visited son who was at Cambridge so that was my home base.
Best time I ever had, we had some plans but enjoyed the getting there as much as the destination ... So I wish that for you... good times just being there and enjoying the moment.

Didn't spot this in your list already, Seth, but I would suggest (weather permitting) that you take the 'Clipper' from the London Eye up the Thames. You could go on up to Greenwich and the 02 on this boat, passing the Tower of London, the new Shakespearian Globe Theatre, London Bridge etc. ... and you might care to have the Tate Modern as your destination.

I think you have enough suggestions to keep you going so I am just going to wish you a great trip and say "Welcome to London".
Prague is one of those cities, where virtually every tourist destination is worth it.
But if you are limited by time: The Strahov (sp?) library and Prague castle and gallery. The little street Kafka lived on and Mozart's villa were my favs. Old town's square. The Mucha museum. Readings by writers, (There's a paper for expats),the bridges..what can I say. IT'S PRAGUE!
As to London
More galleries than I could list, but I really enjoyed the Natural History Museum and of course the British Museum. Too late in the season for Kew Gardens. How does the saying go: "If you don't love London, you don't love life." Yup, time to travel. Have fun.

Prague is a real gem - so many magical little streets, very friendly people. I recommend tossing out your guide books and just soaking the atmosphere.
I especially loved Franz Kafka Museum with a permanent exhibition. they created an amazing atmosphere there.

Hi Seth - sounds like a fab trip. Whenever i go to London I like to go to Tate Modern, The British Museum, Whitechapel Gallery (and other galleries and The Book ARt bookshop near there). The wellcome trust galleries, The British Museum and The British Library, Collombia Rd, Spitalfields Market, Saatchi Gallery, apparently The Museum of Everything is open again but I'm not sure for how long.

I agree with the suggestion of Camden market; you'll find so much inspiration for your books there.
I've been to Prague, and visited the incredible Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art which houses the best permanent exhibitions I've ever seen.
Hello Seth. Maybe a bit off the radar (though I'm not sure why...) Sir John Soane's Museum, 13 Lincoln's Inn Fields (WC2). Extraordinary! He was an architect and this is his house, built to house his remarkable collection.
