Welcome to the fourth edition of The Pulse -- The State of the Art -- a survey in words and pictures of the online artist community. Collectors Edition is the fifth installment in which your favorite artists share their favorite collection or obsession.

A snapshot of some of my favorite "collectibles": rusty metal bits, vintage findings, bones, bugs, taxidermy eyes, vintage buttons, hardware, etc.

My current obsession is my collection of personal journal/sketchbooks which I always alter...along with visual art, I love the written word - the books are 5"x8" so they travel with me whenever I go, I even broke down and purchased a purse which will accommodate the size in order to carry one with me at all times to pass the time waiting anywhere so that waiting is no longer a chore but rather a pleasure.

Type trays. I did my first one in a workshop with Lynne Perrella, gesso-ing, texturing, painting and then filling the openings in the tray with a variety of found objects and ephemera. I did several for an Open Studio Tour and they were quite popular. Going through my stash to find the things to use us more than half the fun of doing them!

I love to collect old tins, textured pieces of this or that...old jewelry and trays...then I like to put them together into temporary assemblages...

I am very much into working with encaustic, so I am collecting different "ingredients" to make my own colors of wax. Also all the other tools and paraphernalia that goes along with it: boards, irons, hot wire brushes, nibs, and anything to make texture!

I love this series- seeing all of the unique items that have special meanings and significance to their owners, how they are presented, and the beauty of the pictures all put together! So appreciative to you for another exciting tour of these amazing collections and very happy to be included in this special grouping!
Artists are so unique and cool- scavenging, collecting, sorting, playing, more sorting(!), creating, sharing. Just one big game really.
What lovely things to look at and dream about. I love artists! They make this world worthwhile and if everyone nurtured this side of their brain and talents, we'd have a better planet to live on. (The verification word is "wayin" which I'm assuming is where we all need to get to produce art - as opposed to "way out," that exclamation when the art is finished.)
Yet another reason to stop by your blog every Sunday: drool over other one's collections! Yeay!
Seeing other people collections is always interesting and inspiring! I think collecting is a creative act; we search, collect and compose little vignettes with our collections or use the material in our own art.
WOW, you sure know how to pass out the treats!

Happy New Year, Seth! Hurray for working in encaustics this New Year. I'm fascinated with that medium, too, so let me know if you learn any interesting new tricks. Btw, I discovered a terrific arts supply store in West Orange, NJ, called Jerry's Art Outlet. It's a small little art store in a mall with friendly, helpful staff and a big supply of art materials, including encaustic paints and tools. From what I've found, the encaustic paints cost less at Jerry's than in any of the arts stores in NYC.

I found post place here. Don't know why I missed it. If you're getting into encaustic, you can get LOTS of texture with it. I spent many mos. trying to keep surface smooth, but will be doing more with texture.
