Case of Curiosities

Case of Curiosities
March 2017

Last week I had the pleasure of hosting my second retreat with Roxanne Evans Stout at Mabel Dodge Luhan House in Taos, New Mexico.

I have fallen in love with the venue and all it's special touches.

This time I stayed in Mabel's room at the top of these steps. I even had another sighting of Mabel's ghost...but that is a story for another time.

A talented group of artists joined us for the workshop...

...for gourmet meals...

...for artist studio visits (here at the studio of Lyn Bleiler)...

...for gallery visits (here with at Two Graces Gallery)...

...and for treasures hunts too.

And of course there was our quest for buffalo.

We gifted the participants with one of a kind supply bundles.

and were often in the workshop room past midnight, creating magic.

Roxanne taught us all how to make victory shields...

and books of scraps.

Individual projects were set up all around the amazing work space

and ultimately housed in everybody's unique Case of Curiosities.

I was fortunate enough to be able to create along with all the participants and here are just some of my completed pieces...

My own Case of Curiosities

We woke to snow on the last day, proving that Mabel Dodge Luhan House is special no matter the weather.

Roxanne and I are returning to Taos and MDLH in October to hold the retreat a second time this year. We are full but feel free to email me at shap97@gmail for more info and to be added to the waitlist.

It was such a special retreat. All the people were fabulous. The venue was amazing. The teachers were awesome and I went way outside my comfort zone. Like, way! Thanks for returning to Taos with these pictures from last week. Sad it went by so fast but I will never forget this time and place.

Wonderful. Mabel's room building has a face or am I being too fanciful?

So much color, texture and complete surface "deliciousness" in the art photos, here! Love the shot of the steps leading up to Mabel's room. Definitely want to hear the story about your encounter with her ghost! I'll just keep scanning my inbox for The Altered Page: "Ghost Post".

This was obviously a very inspiring workshop, and the setting certainly contributed to it! I want to know more about the ghost!

I'm trying to picture all of the shipping it took to get all of the delicious items there and home from this workshop! You and Roxanne make it look so easy. Finished art was really great. Thanks for sharing with us:)🌻Laura
