Greece: Doors & Windows
What is it about doors and windows that attract and interest me so? Perhaps they represent a specific viewpoint. A portal. An entrance. An invitation. A way in to the inside to what is important. To the heart of the matter. A way out to the outside. To new discoveries. They intrigue in part because you don't always know what you will find on the other side. They allow you to both keep things in and keep things out. They represent both entrance and exit. Perhaps in that way, a metaphor for the journey. When ever I am away, I am always searching for them and feel a bolt of inspiration when I find one that really seems to capture the place I am visiting. Click here to see my discoveries when I was in Mexico last November. The images below are just a few of the doors and windows I discovered in Greece. Click to enlarge for detail:
The DOORS we open and close each day decide the lives we live. Flora Whittemore
Art is the WINDOW to man's soul. Without it, he would never be able to see beyond his immediate world, nor could the world see the man within. Claudia Johnson
Perhaps my favorite door of all. Picture this. A mountain climb. The first ridge. Reach the top and there is a door. In the rock. Literally. Built into the mountainside. Open the door. What lies inside?

A wonderful collection of colours and textures, places and times. The door in the rock certainly opens into a whole other world. It's like opening a treasure chest.
How wonderful to find a door on the first ridge on your mountain climb. Great photos, a real variety of colours, textures and materials.
gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. more please!
wow, thanks seth! what a visual treat. and the door opening into the 'sanctuary/alter' cave. yep, that would be my favorite door too.
Hi Seth, I think you and I share the same thoughts. Doors and windows, I also adore!

Wow! These are terrific. What an incredible record of your time ther!
This is a seriously great photo set.
The first picture, of the whole building, is wonderful - my head immediately filled with stories about who lived there. So of course I started looking at each of the doors and windows as stories. By "opening" the cave door you've started that story, but now I want to go back and know about all the others....
You know I love doors and windows... but just the thought of capturing these from another country is so awesome. Again... I can see a lovely collection you've got going on!
Wow, Seth. You have such an eye! And you obviously know what we'd want to look at because this is stunning. I am sharing these with my friends who love doors and windows.
a gorgeous collection Seth,, you must have had a wonderful time exploring through all that history!! thanks for sharing...
what breathtaking doors and windows! awesome!
I love photos of doors and windows, perhaps because I see new opportunities going out of/into or through each one. As it has been in my life anyway...and I love travel and seeing new places. Fun to revisit Greece through your eyes and camera.
