Opening Day

The opening of Below the Surface was held this past Saturday. The show was co-sponsored by The Book Arts Round Table and The Printmaking Council of New Jersey and was held at PCNJ.

I was happy to be there to experience an exhibition from the other side. Thirty seven books created by twenty three artists were on display and so many different styles of book arts were represented. There were books made from paper, metal, felt, wood, mica, and other materials. And every type of binding seemed to be on display.

The opening was well attended and I was lucky to have met many, very welcoming books artists.

I am happy to be able to share with you the fact that my book Undergound sold.

Billboard remains available and is for sale at the price of $210. If anybody out there is interested in purchasing this book, please send me an email. Sold. Thank you!

The exhibition runs through December 5. Stop by if you are in the neighborhood. You can find directions in PCNJ's website.

Congratulations on your sold book, what a wonderful feeling this must be!
Btw: I really wonder, why are you always stopping over on my German blog, which is quite boring I think and not on my blogspot-blog which is much more interesting and in Englisch?!
Just a question.
Have a great day!

Congratulations, Seth! LOL. I took one look at the first picture and wondered if you were going to take some of it with you when you went home. Our very first home was a four (small) bedroom two-story farm house built in 1909. Across the creek was a two room homestead shack, and we pulled the wood siding off of it to 'wallpaper' our living room. The wood surface had some lichen growing on it near the seams, and we had to 'water' it occasionally.

Hello Seth, I found your blog by Miss Magpie's Eye and am very impressed. I will try to get some of mine and my cohorts books onto my blog at one stage. They hold a monthly exhibition of 'livres d'artistes' here in Toulouse and they are always spectacular. I have bought two so far and they inspire me to create my own! Wish I could see yours up closer. Thank you for the glimpse

Hey Seth, thanks for the virtual tour of the exhibit! Great fun & enjoyed all the photos.
I am wondering how they "handled" the book exhibits, as the ones I have been involved in are always "under glass" with no availability of viewers to peruse the books. Did you have plastic sleeves, or anything that would protect the work as individuals looked through the pages? I'm really curious as this has been a concern of mine as an altered book artist.
Thanks again for the show!

Of course it sold! It was brilliant! Congrats!
I would love to see an exhibition like this. I've only ever seen 1 NZ exhibition of Altered Books and that was years ago before I knew what they were. Your so lucky to be allowed to take photos too, that's not allowed in most places here.
I've enjoyed this road trip of yours so far!

Thanks for your visit to my blog also:)

Congratulations on your sale, Seth! Well done! The validation of my artwork by making a sale is often 10x more satisfying than the money itself! The money to me is kind of a by-product, but great that it helps fund more materials to make more art!!

The other posts are equally exciting. I really love the pages -the build up of colour and texture into wonderfully abstract layers is so cool!
