Say What??

This past month I started to write for a NYC website start-up called NearSay. It breaks NYC down by neighborhood and will eventually cover all of Manhattan and Brooklyn. Right now it is highlighting downtown Manhattan but other neighborhoods will be rolled out soon. It focuses on six categories: restaurants, nightlife, shopping, real estate, arts & culture, and family.

What makes this site unique is that the content is written by locals who really know the ins and outs of the city. And many of the writers are bloggers who have their fingers on the pulse. The site is quite user friendly and it is so easy to find just what you are looking for. For example, want to see the must-see gallery show opening in the Lower East Side? One click away.

This site is great for New Yorkers, for people coming to visit NYC, or simply for people from afar who want to know what is happening in the city. And once you find a writer you like on the site, you can follow them to get all their posts. And you can sign up for neighborhood newsletters by email too.

The images on this post are all from my contributions to NearSay and document some of the places I have recently visited in NYC. Most of what I post on NearSay will not be posted on The Altered Page. Head on over to their home page and check it out. Click this link to see the articles that I have already written and sign up to follow me if you like.

I love how everything is so close together theoretically in NY....but I like how things are spread about here. I always wonder where I would live it I won the lottery...and I can't find one better than the other. I would be on both coasts...certainly following blogs like NearSay! Great post, Seth!

Oh my! Since I live in the geographic middle of the country I feel like an outsider. So this will be the perfect site for me to sit and drool over. Thanks for the link.

Wow, NearSay is such an innovative new site and what great posts from you. I have Obscura on my next place to visit. What an amazing looking shop you've highlighted! Also, you are so on the PULSE for what's going on in the art world. Everyone is right- you must never sleep!! SUPER Congrats on being a contributor to NearSay!

What a super site Seth and so cool that you are part of it. Too bad I am not a New Yorker cause I would most definitely visit Obscura. I guess now that you wrote about it it's not that Obscura anymore..just being goofy...

I love the first picture. That would be such a fun store to visit. I'd probably want everything, though. I'm a sucker for weird stuff.

OH bummer Seth... my son is just back from the USA.. he visited your country for 7 weeks - drove from NY to San Fransico en flew back to NY again... so he was in NYC for a few days two times... he would have LOVED to have this link back then! Aaargghhhh... Oh well, next time. I hope a lot of readers will profit from this! (I'm sure they will!)

Wow,this is a great idea! It would be so nice if other cities did this, wouldn't it? I'm definitely going to check out this site, so I can at least see NYC from afar, if never close up. Thanks! And congrats on the writing gig! (When DO you sleep?) :~)
