There is a column in every issue of
Cloth Paper Scissors magazine called
Artists Give Back. it is written by Elena Lai Etcheverry, who herself knows a lot about giving back. Elena is the Founder and Executive Director of
Charity Wings, an art & craft center in San Marcos, California that is dedicated to the charitable and healing aspects of art.
In the new, November/December issue of CPS, Elena has chosen to write about The Pulse Charity Auction that I spearheaded in response to Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
Nearly 50 art-related items were donated by artists and more than $2,300 was raised and donated to the victims of Sandy. You can read more about the event in
this blog post and on the pages (well, page 24 to be exact) of
CPS.
The art community in NYC was hit quite hard and, nearly two years later to the day, are
still struggling with the aftermath. Hmmmm. Perhaps it is time for The Pulse Charity Auction V2...

i just went back and read your post from 2012 . . . how did i miss that?
there were some amazing 'bundles'.
anyway. what a great idea to raise money for victims of natural or 'unnatural' disasters. . . .
i look forward to the next PULSE CHARITY AUCTION !
Kudos to you for organizing the auction in 2012, and the fabulous gift you've provided for NYC artists as a result. Losing one's art and supplies in a disaster is a horrific experience; your efforts to assuage the pain are admirable.
There's always time to help the needy.
I was not a follower of your blog in 2012, Seth, but was well aware of the devastation suffered by so very many in the NYC Area. A friend's home was severely damaged. If there are still artists struggling with recovery, is there a way to help them directly with art supplies?
Yes, many are still struggling. I live near the Jersey shore and have a friend who is still homeless after 2 years! I'm appalled by how the powers-that-be have victimized these people after Sandy victimized them. But I'm also encouraged by people like you, Seth, who have stepped up to the plate to help. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
WOW! I was not a follower at that time either- but sure wish I was!! What a great cause to organize for and how wonderful of the artists who donated and the bidders who joined in!!Well done Seth- let us know if another is in the works!
It is so nice get together as a community and give to another. I've been involved with a few here and it is so wonderful seeing that money going to others in need. Congrats on the share in the mag, can't wait to see mark II happen xxx
