The Winds of Change

The wonderful Roxanne Evans Stout from River Garden Studio and I have collaborated together on a number of projects. In 2008 Evidence of Autumn was born. We each created handmade books which we traded back and forth, completing the pages based on the theme of Autumn. My book is pictured below.

The experience was an absolute pleasure and I treasure this book everyday. Our styles blended together so well and the theme resonated with both of us. So much so, in fact, that we decided to do it again, still focusing on Autumn as the theme. And in 2010 The Winds of Change was born. We again each created a handmade book we passed cross country, working on pages in both books. It has been fascinating to see how both of our styles have evolved and yet still seamlessly blend. You can see my newest book below.

With both of us being so excited about our collaborations, we wanted to share them with you. And today we are both thrilled to announce that our joint project has led to a self-published book...The Winds of Change.

This book showcases our artwork from both collaborations as well as other, related pieces. Also included are words that we each have written that were inspired by each other's artwork.

You can see a preview of the book and purchase it here. Soon it will also be available in my Etsy shop.

Thanks Roxanne for everything. I am so happy that our collaboration continues!

Change is in the Air

This time of year for me is about change and possibility.

The heat of the summer has begun to fade.

The leaves on the trees are preparing to explode with colors that only nature can create.

Perhaps it is a vestige of the yearly ritual of returning to school when I was younger that leads me to a place of new opportunities and new directions.

Both the excitement and the anticipation of what may come next linger in the air.

And with each passing day throughout autumn, the bounty of the season is revealed.

On Wednesday evening, join me here and here as a secret project of the season is revealed. The winds of change have arrived.

StudioScapes: Chapter 3

Welcome to the fourth edition of The Pulse -- The State of the Art -- a survey in words and pictures of the online artist community. Nearly 150 artists have answered a list of questions which make up The Pulse. Their responses will be presented as a series of online and print projects. Links to the first two projects, Secret Sunday and The Book Guild, can be found on the sidebar of my blog.

StudioScapes is the third project and Chapter 3 starts right now! All artists participating in The Pulse were asked to submit a photograph of a favorite art-related vignette from their home or studio.

Ponderables

can a stitch in time save eight?

who decides what shapes to make the clouds?

how do we know it is the road less travelled unless we drive it?

how can we see when we live in the dark?

To the 10th Power

The newest and 10th issue of Pasticcio Quartz is hot off the presses. Created by Sarah Fishburn and Angela Cartwright, this publication is really more book than zine. I guess that is why the title includes the word Quartz, which stands for Quality Art Zine.

Sarah and Angela pour their hearts and talents into every issue. One of the many things that makes Pasticcio so special is the wide variety of topics covered. Of course there is art, and at 72 pages there is a lot of art to love. But there are also interviews, book and movie reviews, tutorials, links to discover, stories, historical artist reviews, and so much more.

Sarah and Angela invited me to be part of this issue and I am happy to say that you can find my art and an interview featured in the Art Array section. The art images shown in this post are two of my pieces that you will find in issue 10.

You can see a preview of Pasticcio, including a page from my feature, and order your copy here.

For years and years, I did all my artwork while sitting on the floor. I felt it gave me the greatest freedom of movement. Then a couple of years ago I acquired this small table and chair. And wasn't sure if I'd really use it. But I am! (of course, I cleaned it off to take the photo...)

My attachment shows my kitchen that I use as my art room right now - it always looks like it had just been bombed ...
_______________

_______________

This is a shot of my sewing machine...which is covered in ink and paint because I leave it out at all times, and it's just a few inches away from where I work. But, I don't mind. I love this old thing!
_______________

A pic from the more organized end of my studio....
_______________

These three paintings (12” x 12”) hang on the wall just inside my kitchen. The top painting starts at about 12 feet from the ground. I have paintings in little groupings like this everywhere in my home.

_______________

The photo is of my 'workspace' in my studio. Well... half of it. The other is just as big and just as filled. The window is a North window. I like a mix of natural light and artificial for color choices, so I spend most of my time at this desk.
_______________

_______________

I made this arrangement recently on a cabinet in my studio. I've needed to tune-in to the strength and wisdom of the Divine Feminine, and this grouping of several dolls I've made and Madonna figures I've collected along with roses and candles, reminds me where the light in my life needs to be and where it comes from.

Baang & Burne

Baang & Burne is the brain child of artist Kesha Bruce and photographer Charlie Grosso. The concept behind B & B is a no-walls gallery travelling through cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Portland. This series of one-night-only art exhibitions will be held in private homes or hotel suites. The inaugural event is scheduled for September 26th in NYC and will feature Jane Zweibel in an exhibition entitled Stitched Identities.

Jane is a New York City based artist who will be exhibiting her "stuffed paintings." These are sewn, stuffed, and painted objects combining the worlds of sculpture and painting.

Although space will be limited at all these intimate events, invitations will be sent to everybody who signs up on their mailing list.
