Otnes Hotness

There have been a large number of impressive art exhibits in NYC so far this season. Anselm Kiefer was a favorite and you can read brief reviews of many more on my page at NearSay. A recent retrospective of work by collage artist Fred Otnes at Kouros Gallery also was a highlight.

Otnes names his inspirations as Pablo Picasso, Kurt Schwitters, Robert Motherwell, and Joseph Cornell. In turn, he has himself become an inspiration for countless mixed media artists.

The beauty of his work is in the compositions and, as the close-up shots below reveal, the small details.

Those look great, I'm not a city girl but sometimes I wished I had access to the city for some of these amazing exhibitions.

So glad you are showcasing your wonderful photos of the exhibits. I'm not familiar with these artists so it's always a super learning experience to enter these galleries through your blog!

Oh, Seth, this is beyond marvelous. Thank you so much for sharing Otnes. I am trying to imagine a world without these giants, but I can't. This is exactly what mesmerizes me, and I find myself standing there, entranced, while my cohort have moved on rooms away...

The webisphere without you? IMPOSSIBLE!!

As I live far far away from any galleries of note, I must view the work of artists I admire via photos in books and on websites. The close-up detail was much appreciated on this post. Joseph Cornell is one of my favorites too and this interactive website does an excellent job illustrating his imagination and creativity. http://www.pem.org/sites/cornell/#

One of my favorites! And here is a quote of his that I love:
"I could live with raw umber and black for the rest of my life. It has infinite possibilities, gradations, subtleties -- it has tonal variations that are very beautiful." -- Fred Otnes

I adore Fred Otnes. I found a book about him at our library and I didn't want to take it back :) And Anselm Kiefer, oh my! That must have been wonderful. I am guessing that they both inspire your lovely work?

Not quite my cuppa tea - but that's art for you! Lol!

Anyway, the main reason I'm here is to say thanks for all your inspiring postings this year; to congratulate you on your pending publication and to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the opportunities you have created for me. Whether you realise it or not, you have inspired me to greater and greater heights creatively, Seth. Hope you have a fantastic winter solstice and merry xmas. :-)
