Tag Along

Supria at Encaustic Musings recently tagged me. Visit her blog to see her amazing work in encaustics and other media. Bending the rules slightly, I am going to share 6 random, art-related facts about me. You can also click here to read 6 other random facts that I posted back in March. If anybody wants to join in a little game of tag, feel free to leave a random art-related fact about you in the comment section (hmmmm, note to self...this could be a good question for the next artist survey for The Pulse).

1. I have tons of art material that I have either found or bought that will probably never end up being used -- just sorted through and admired.

2. When I can, I always look on the back of every art-related item that I have or see because sometimes there is a work of art to be found there too.

3. I use glue sticks all the time but the only brand I will ever buy is Avery.

4. When I was younger I always made a beeline for the impressionist paintings in museums. Now I head straight to the modern/contemporary ones.

5. I always get frustrated when I am in a gallery or museum and photography is not allowed. Although I understand the reasoning, it lessens the whole experience for me.

6. I prefer to work on small sized pieces. In fact the largest artwork I have made is about 10" x 10". I am about to begin a collaborative project on a 2' x 2' canvas and will totally be outside my comfort zone.

I also want to send out thanks to Sarah Kelley at The Beaded Lily's Sketchbook for passing on the Butterfly Award to me. And to Ooglebloops at Ooglebloop's World for giving me the Tree of Happiness Award. Much appreciation and many thanks to both Sarah and Ooglebloop! And if you haven't been, please go check out their wonderful blogs.

I find learning that you are used to small spaces for your art, 10 inches x 10 inches in interesting to me. I just completed a 48" X 33" art quilt and find making an ATC difficult and challenging. Another art quilt group I belong to limits us to 8 X 11" size or 4A. That too is challenging for me.

I hear you about no cameras in museums or art shows. Frustrating.

WOW..are you my long lost twin brother?? All of your statements apply to me too. I love Avery glue sticks..and buy it in bulk..LOL..
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!

I hope your glue sticks treat you better than mine do. I can't get the glue to stick long term - but I use Pritt. Best of luck with the 2' canvas. I totally understand about being outside your comfort zone.

I still haven't found a glue stick I like so I will definitely try Avery.

I just did a 12" x 24" piece and it was quite the stretch for me. I'm used to smaller pieces, too. But going outside our comfort zones can be a good thing.

Peace & Love,

Seth, I don't know why so often your explorations touch me. You just make me look at things in a new way all the time.

It's kind of exhausting.

Anyway, I want to thank you for being here, a touchstone.

I have an issue with large pieces, as well, but I have been gradually moving from ATC size to 8x10, and just now am working on a 9x12. It's scary! But you have comrades!

My eccentricity is not really a good one. I find that I must move from one thing to a different kind of thing. If I've just finished 4x4 pages, I have to do something 3D. If I've been working with polymer clay, I have to go to something else, like beading or pipecleaners! I can't stay on one media for long, although I do go back to them all almost cyclically. I don't know what that's about.

One more thing: I have a very hard time being inner-motivated. I want to break out of having an 'assignment' and get to what's inside and only me.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, Seth!

Avery? Really? You know...this is probably the most valuable "fun fact" about a person I have read. LOL I'll try it too...

That's funny.....I'm about to begin a collaboration on a big canvas too... weird.

Interesting that your comfort zone is 10 x 10 or smaller - I dont know why - but in my head I had imagine some of work could be quite a bit bigger than that.
You know - I never got the hang of glue sticks :)
Fun post

I enjoyed your second fact. I hadn't thought of it like that before, but will now be more observant.

I think of MYSELF as a big, Random, Art-Related fact. Especially the "Random" part.

Hi Seth! Thank you for taking the time to visit my blog as well as your enocouraging comments! It is appreicated! I know all about the "comfort zone" in relation to convas size! Have finally moved up and find that an 8" x 10" is a comfortable size for me. I have done up to 5' long but must say, this is somewhat scary if you don't know what you are doing like me!

Thanks for visiting my blog. You show a wide variety of work and I like that! I sometimes use mixed media in my paintings - especially found objects from the beach.

No.5 rings a bell. It's only in the last year or so that I feel as if I've left my head behind if i don't have my camera with me.
