Welcome to the fourth edition of The Pulse -- The State of the Art -- a survey in words and pictures of the online artist community. Nearly 150 artists have answered a list of questions which make up The Pulse. Their responses will be presented as a series of online and print projects. Secret Sunday was the first project and the links to all the secrets can be found on the sidebar of my blog. The Book Guild is the second project and Chapter 3 starts right now!
All artists participating in The Pulse were asked to name their favorite art books. The Book Guild will present this list, along with links, book reviews, giveaways, and interviews with many of your favorite authors. And as members of The Guild, I am hoping YOU will participate by leaving comments related to the books in each post - for example thoughts, book reviews, personal experiences, or a link back to your own blog posts that include artwork based on a project in the listed book.

WOW, so many wonderful books to look at and peruse. Great continued series on book favorites and just really love that they touch on so many different areas!
Great looking books! I have Mary Todd Beam's Celebrate your Creative Self and am glad I bought it. So many times I will buy a book and then wish I hadn't. I'm wondering if I have guessed the most popular author.
Hi Seth, yes I still love this book. the styles in "Creating A Self- Portrait" are varied and makes you want to grab anything handy and experiment. I like also how each person sees themself.... seem to be looking into their souls...
although I am not on their par, I have attached a short blog post I did a couple years ago after getting inspired... http://gwenbuchanan.blogspot.com/2008/01/self-portrait.html
Art is Addictive!!...
and Thanks for the other great book titles, I'll be on the look-out for them!
Selfportraits... oh, wow! Always wanted to pick that up again... now that I see this book, I might! Thanks again for the inspiration Seth - I keep repeating myself ain't I... but I mean it! You're awesome, filling every Sunday with so much inspiration!
we were just discussing CREATIVE AWAKENINGS in my art journal group yesterday, it is a very intriguing book!
OK I am going to have to stop coming by on Sundays, I will have to sell a lot more work of my own to be able to support the new book habit being encouraged here!!
So many great books! Thanks so much for posting these Seth! I highly recommend the Twyla Tharp book- I've read it several times and it never ceases to inspire me, or to get me 'back on track'.
It's unusual that I've not heard of any of this week's books before, so I'll set out soon to search for the ones that look interesting. Thanks for all the links and putting these posts together.
Lord help me win the lottery...I made an order for Amazon last week and now I NEED two more books...well I would love to own...well maybe the library will have them :O).
Have a great weekend! Imagine and Live in Peace, Mary helen Fernandez Stewart
Great idea Seth! My favorite book is Claudine Hellmuth's "Collage Discovery Workshop" http://www.amazon.com/Collage-Discovery-Workshop-Claudine-Hellmuth/dp/1581803435
I've used tons of her techniques.
Lots of great book suggestions! Twyla Tharp's book has been on my hit list for a while.. I may have to indulge! Thanks for the continued inspiration Seth!
The Book Guild is a wonderful resourse. Now I really want to go shopping for a few new books! Thanks for creating another amazing project... roxanne
Quite a few new ones here for me Seth. I do have and like the first one, Celebrate your Creative Self, but will have to check out some of the others. Thanks for another great collection!
As impossible as it may sound, I don't have any of these books...even though my bookshelf looks like something from the Barnes & Noble art section. So much more to discover. It's a good thing blogs are free!
