Welcome to the fourth edition of The Pulse -- The State of the Art -- a survey in words and pictures of the online artist community. Nearly 150 artists have answered a list of questions which make up The Pulse. Their responses will be presented as a series of online and print projects. Secret Sunday was the first project and the links to all the secrets can be found on the sidebar of my blog. The Book Guild is the second project and Chapter 16 starts right now!
All artists participating in The Pulse were asked to name their favorite art books. The Book Guild will present this list, along with links, book reviews, giveaways, and interviews with many of your favorite authors. And as members of The Guild, I am hoping YOU will participate by leaving comments related to the books in each post - for example thoughts, book reviews, personal experiences, or a link back to your own blog posts that include artwork based on a project in the listed book.

Chapter 16: Angela Cartwright
Becky New selected Angela Cartwright's Mixed Emulsions: Altered Art Techniques for Photographic Imagery as one of her favorites.
Angela shared the following thoughts about her book...
When I was asked to write my book "Mixed Emulsions" about my altered photographic techniques, it really opened my eyes. I realized just how much photography and art was integrated in my life and how embedded it was in my heart. I also realized how miserable I would be if I could not make my art. In my journey to be artistically authentic to myself I have discovered... you have to feel free to listen and to learn, to experiment, and to fail... to be patient with the process and be willing to not second guess yourself when your soul comes calling.... I call that being unruly... and that was at the very core of this book...take from it what you will...and run....
Angela also shared two of her favorite books...
Cyclops by Albert Watson
Unwrapped by Carolyn Quartermaine

I have always been a fan of Angela Cartwright's art. She has exposed so many of us who love to take photographs, but hate the concept of scrapbooking, to what fun things can actually be done with our processed film. So nice of her to share this book as a giveaway.
Oh, great - I don´t have this book in my collection but would love to have it as I admire Angela´s work. So please pick me!
That's so generous! Thanks Angela... I'm very curious to see/read/go through this book so I'm in! Thanks for the opportunity!
Love how the author describes her book. I'm excited to be included in the draw.
Photography is something I would like to explore and learn more about using in my artwork to make it more "me". Thanks for the chance to win this book - it sounds very interesting.
Wow!!! Amazing talent, Imagination and Business mind!!
I already have Angela's book, but just wanted to say that it's also one of my favourites. I even found some dental instruments at a garage sale and am looking forward to distressing many photos with these implements. LOL! There's no need to add me to the draw.
Angela's book is a wonderful resource with lots of useful information. I already have a copy so no need to throw my name in the hat.
Wonderful giveaway! I just barely managed to NOT go and buy this book straight away. I'd heard of it before, of course, it's supposed to be brilliant! Your post makes it sound even better. Please include me in the draw.

What another great Book Guilt post and just love all of the feedback from Angela on her book. Went through her website and what an amazing artist she is. Just love her words "you have to feel free to listen and to learn, to experiment, and to fail... to be patient with the process and be willing to not second guess yourself when your soul comes calling." Love her unruliness forever!! Thanks for putting such a large smile on my face this wonderful sunday morning. What a wonderful gift!!!

Angela's passion for life and art is a true inspiration. I have had the opportunity to meet and speak with her - so genuine and so kind.
It would be wonderful to win a copy of her book - but surely if not it will be in my art library one day!
Love Angela's work, and this book looks phenomenal. I'm always seeking ways to make my photography more personal, and I bet this would be a great start. Thanks!
I have several arty book in my wish list hoping my family will look instead of telling me go buy what I want. Its always nice to have someone else appreciate artistry.
I'm so grateful that I met Angela on a cruise and was introduced to her art. I haven't seen anything she's done, including clothing, that was any less than fabulous! I would love to win a copy of another of her books.
What a fabulous opportunity!! Thank you and thank you Angela!
Marc Chagall once said, "In our life there is a single color, as on an artist's palette, which provides the meaning of life and art. It is the color of love." As usual, Angela uses this single color as the background for all of her work, she uses love in each of her works, to give texture and meaning to whatever medium she uses. This is what separates her work from others...her art is a pleasure to behold!
I love Angela's work. Would love to have a copy of her book.
I am drawn to the unruly, the mysterious and the story in art. Thank you, Angela, for sharing the process..I think that's what it's all about.
What a marvelous collection! Would you be signing the book?
I have been a traditional scrapbooker for over 20 years, and have in the last few years jumped into the digital world, opening many doors for me. I welcome all of the wondrous new mediums yet to be explored, and when I discovered Angela's work, I was mesmerized. I don't have this book, and would love to be included in the chance to be chosen!
I've been intrigued & fascinated by art my whole life but when I tried my hand at it during my youth, I discovered that I had no talent whatsoever for drawing or painting. No matter how hard I tried, my proportions were all wrong and I couldn't get the hang of shading and blending colors. However, after having discovered Angela's wonderful altered art techniques, it gave me hope that I might actually be able to create some beautiful art pieces in spite of my lack of talent in drawing.
If I was chosen as the lucky winner of her book, I think it would serve as my launching pad into exploring the wonderful world of art and seeing where my creativity could take me.
Some very thought-provoking works here! It is a priviledge to be included in the comment section, with the added bonus of having the chance of being included in this drawing. Thank you, so much.

I think Anglea is fabulous. Photograhy is my passion ~ would love to learn from a master how to take it to another level.
I always wanted to learn traditional film photography and never had the time. I'm still fascinated with developing, lens filters, f-stops and all that stuff. I would be honored to have Angela's book as a guide.
