8 Years and a Giveaway

Eight years ago today I started this blog. In some ways, that was also the first day of my life as an artist. I have always said, and continue to believe, that without the opportunities that being online has brought, I would not be where I am today. Through this blog and my other online sites, I feel that I am a part of a community of people who get it. Who get me. And that has made all the difference in the world.

These past years have brought both spectacular moments and difficult challenges. As with everybody else, there have been ups and downs. Throughout it all has been the consistent and strong support that all of you have given me. I feel so fortunate to have made the connections I have, both online and IRL.

I have much to celebrate, particularly this year. I get to travel all over, teaching workshops to creative souls - all of whom I get to learn from as well. I continue to be able to showcase my art - online and in galleries, books and magazines. And with my ongoing line of stencils with StencilGirl Products, my first collection of rubber stamps with Impression Obsession, and my upcoming line of mixed media products with Spellbinders Creative Arts, I feel like I am about to enter into another thrilling chapter of my life.

I owe a debt of gratitude to all of you and want to thank you with a giveaway. Simply leave a comment on this blog post by end of day on 8/16 to be eligible and be sure I have your email address. The random number table will pick four winners, each of whom will win their choice of the following: my two books, my two workshop DVDs, any two sets of my cling rubber stamps, or any three stencils from my stencil line.

(Thank you. The giveaway is now closed. Congratulations to the four winners: granchris, Irene Rafael, Francesca Watson and Debbie D)

Thank you all! I look forward to the next 8 years of blogging...and beyond.

What an amazing accomplishment! Here's to another wonderful 8 years, and thanks for all you do for this artist community!

Actually Seth, it is I who owes you a debt of gratitude. The first time I participated in one of your collaborations many years ago, and I was exposed to other mixed media artists, my art life finally fell into place. Before that I was adrift. Then you set me on course, and I realized I'm not alone in this mixed media world.

I wish you the best in your continued success as an artist, a teacher, and a designer. It couldn't happen to a nicer person. Here's to many, many more years of success.

Seth, my first contact with you was reading about your "disintegrating bundle". I ended up with several of those bundles hanging from trees around our property. At that point I was hooked on the Seth Apter way of seeing possibilities in everything.

You have been such an encourager - generous with your time and input. Thank YOU for 8 years of giving to all of us!

when was it that I found your blog Seth? Oh wait, I might find that in some of my old blogposts, as I am blogging for almost 7 years (in November - and I could have written the same kind of post about that as you just did) I guess we are the 'die-hard bloggers' by now, ha! Wait a minute, I'll check... Wow, it was July 8 2009 that I first mentioned your blog on mine (see this post: http://www.maritscrapworld.com/blog/?p=3898 ) - so that's 6 years of 'knowing each other' Seth and man, am I glad I bumped into you and your art-world. I do hope to 'bump into you' in real life one day... who knows? Until then, I keep following you online and cheering you from the side as I am one of your biggest fans. That's why I would love to win one of your products too. Big hug from Holland and 'keep on rockin' in the free world' my friend!

Wow - 8 years.... that's incredible Seth. As you know... I am a relative newbie follower of yours. I have only been a blogger for approx. ten months but I have spent a lot of time every day... watching, listening, learning, commenting, posting, creating. I have met a lot of people... thru my blogging.

And then there was you Seth. You are a horse of a different color. YOU ARE... and you would want us to choose whatever color that might be... because that's how you make us all feel. You encourage individuality. You encourage freedom. You encourage even our worse efforts. You inspire.

You always have time for us. You share, care and give in ways that most don't. If I were to write to you and say HELP - you would stop and help. I think anyone reading this would understand what I am trying to say.

You are one of the most humble, selfless, inspiring people I have met in this artist blogging world. I am always excited to see your creations, read your writings and here what is going on with your art. You deserve so much success and so much applause Seth. You deserve to have what you have given and given to each of us returned a hundred fold.

So that said... may this coming year be the BEST ever. And judging from the upcoming Jan. events - it just might be!!! Happy Anniversary. And Thanks bunches and bunches for the great inspiration that you are. j.

I too have only been following your blog for a couple of years, since I restarted my creative life after a huge prompt from my best friend who suggested a few blogs to help me get started.
Just reading the blogs, and joining in paper swaps and the like has allowed me to feel part of a creative and artistic community. Some of the value of this wonderful technology lies in being to access at all times of the day and night rather than turning up one afternoon a week to communicate with others.
I value your work, and am looking forward to doing a workshop with you in Harrogate in November. If i am lucky enough to win can i please have a stencil or two, i adore them. Meanwhile warmest congratulations that your hard work and natural talent are pushing your life in a wow direction
