Today's topic. Composition

Composition refers to the arrangement of the visual elements within a piece of art. Click here to find out how you can apply this concept to your blog.

Most excellent advice, Seth. I recently tried Blogger's new dynamic views, and found it - wanting. I want a number of elements visible on my blog, and that includes a sidebar easy to navigate - and appealing. None of the dynamic views offered that. I put a gadget up topside that allows viewers to choose a dynamic view - lots of eye appeal, but leaves the standard view in place.

GOOD STUFF!

Very good advice in your post, Seth. My blog has undergone all kinds of revisions since I started it - mostly via template changes and new banners from time to time. I consider it a work-in-progress of sorts, as I add and change things regularly to make it (hopefully) more visually appealing.

The three things, composition-wise, that are a huge turn-off are on other blogs are: 1) music; 2) AdSense ads; 3) having to use a horizontal scrollbar because the blogger decided to go with a width beyond the standard.

Great blog advice on composition Seth. Will sit with your thoughts and see how I can improve my own blog! You are right about first impressions- they are very important. But once I get to know a blog, looks don't quite matter as much as the content.

All good tips Seth. The problem with music is that it is always the same. If obly it would change each time you look.

Oooooh. Nice! I found your blog via Sarah Fishburn and now I will have to hang around and read these posts on "composition" for blogs. Standard blog templates/layouts have always lacked good design, in my opinion. Now I will have to put thought into customizing my own.

Thank you for this eye-opening series.

I never would have thought of designing a blog similar to art but come to think of it, you're absolutely correct. In art, there is also what they call area of interest where a person's eye normally look at and on some circumstances, they lead the eye to the subject. I guess this holds true on what to place where in your blog page. Thanks for the tip!
