The Monday Minute

I have converted. And there is no going back. The only thing I am wondering is what took me so long?! I am now the proud owner of a MacBook, an iPad, and an iPhone. And I am exploring the world of Apps. I would love suggestions from those in the know of favorite art and photography Apps. Feel free to name names in a comment to this post.

-----------------------------------------
Thank you to everybody who signed up for my giveaway of two copies of the first issue of Stampington's newest magazine Mingle. The lucky winners are Bridgette from Contemplating the Moon and Eileen from Art Saves Lives.

-----------------------------------------
Stay tuned for a book review and a new giveaway as part of The Book Guild later this week.

-----------------------------------------
I have begun to stock my Etsy shop with some of my new mini books. Use them as a journal to collect your thoughts, remember an event, make a list, or spill the beans. Fill one with your doodles and drawings. Attach one to a gift for a personalized touch. Pop it in your pocket and record your travels.  Many more will be added in the coming days. If you see one in this image that has not yet been added to the shop, email me and it is yours.

-----------------------------------------
And of course come back next Sunday for the 6th installment of Techniques & Tools, where the favorites of 11 more artists will be revealed.

I have an iMac, but want my MacBook back. I had to give it back when I took my early retirement. It was provided by work. I REALLY miss it. I might settle for an iPad, though. At least then I could still read in bed.

Camera+ is great for photos - you can crop, alter, change the lighting etc etc etc a really great app. Then Camera Art FX is also fun. With this one you can change the setting as you take the photo so you can take a comic book style photo or a line drawing photo - and there's a free version!

For photo editing on your iPhone I think that Snapseed is a must have. It is a bit pricey compared to some but I think that it is one of the better ones. Sometimes it is available for a limited time to download for free if you didn't want to pay top dollar for it.

Depends what you would like to do with your photos and down to personal preference, but other photography apps that I tend to use the most are;
PhotoStudio
PictureShow
picfx
100Cameras
IrisPhotoSuite
PicTools
PhotoForge2

..and like Sandy I would also recommend Instagram, it's free and is well worth a download.

oh!.... and I have iPad envy! ;)

I love my iMac and iPad.

For the iPad Art Studio is so cool and easy to use.

the coolest clock for the iMac is Mecahnical Clock 3D Lite and free. Very SteamPunk. and work for your wall paper. Both highly recommended.

Cheers

What a lovely pile of gadgets you have! I've used a Mac computer and iPod for many years, but am thinking of getting the new iPhone for it's camera so am keen to find out what photographic apps people are recommending; especially those ones that add 'grunge' filters!

I love my MacBook and I am going to get an iPhone just for the camera apps....have fun!

I am a new iPhone owner too, and enamored... wanted it mostly for the camera. A friend recommended "Hipstamatic" and I got it... It's fun and easy. Gives you several lens and film choices so that you end up with pix that look like terrible shots from the 60's or like timeless, worn shots with deckle-edges. A lot of fun!

I too am hooked, Seth. I have an iMac, MacBook Pro, and iPhone. The iPhone has saved my life so many times - I set a reminder for everything, using either "Alarmed" or "Nag." And try "HeyTell" for sending messages - all you do is hold down a button, speak your message, & it sends it to anyone you know who has an iPhone or any smart phone (but NOT Blackberry).
Creatively, some of my fav apps are: Cool fx, Zoom Photo, Photo Toaster, Scratch Cam. But the absolute BEST are Transphotos, 100 Cameras, PhotoForge 2, pixfx, Grungetastic, & WaterPhoto.
But beware - you'll discover you've been playing with photo apps for over an hour & suddenly your battery is low. LOL So FABULOUS!

Photograhy for iphone: Photo365, Luminance, Hipstamatic(excellent), PicGrunger, Instagram(excellent), LOMO(excellent),Camera+(excellent), Camera Zoom, Genius, OldCamera(excellent), SwankoLab, also Flickr for iphone, Tipulator for tipping. FlightAware for flight info, Pandora for music, Tumblr for iphone, I use all of these all the time.

My partner just made the switch to iphone and loves it too.

I bought an iMac about a year ago. I'll never go back to the dark side.

Check the Bright Hub post on art apps for the Mac. It will come up up in a Google search.

Welcome to mac in all it's forms, I couldn't live without them. I can't help too much with apps, just getting used to the ipad myself looks like there are some great suggestions already for you to check out. Watch out, mac is so user friendly you may never get off the computer. xox Corrine

Great products from a great man who understood the art of design (and artists). “Almost everything–all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure–these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.” – Steve Jobs’ Stanford Commencement Address

Seth, you'll never look back! I thought I'd share my favororite "grunge" apps since that's my fav thing to do to my photos:
Pic Grunger, Vintage Scene, picfx, FotoMuse, Grungetastic, ScratchCam,oldPhotoPRO

Besides these, my all time fav CAMERA apps are:
Hipstamatic (This one is a must have. Be sure to turn on push notifications and routinely visit Hipstamatic on Facebook - 'cuz they sometimes come out with limited edition films and lenses - you don't want to miss out), Lomora 2, and Paper Camera

Then for processing my favs are:
IRIS, PhotoStudio, PictureShow, LoMob, Plastic Bullet,
SwankoLab, CAMERAtan, Photo fx

there are many more apps that are fun to play with as well..just depends on what you like to do with your photos.

Have fun and welcome to the club!

I feel your excitement Seth! Think I might have to get myself an ipad too. I have an iphone but find the screen too small especially to show images of my work. Sadly, the app I'm enjoying the most these days is a slots casino game :-)
