New York Street Art
On the journey of life, I have always felt that it is important to be open and to be aware. Signs, signals, and directions are everywhere to be found. All you have to do is open your eyes. And when you do, there is no telling what you might find!
Street finds: rusty objects that were just waiting to be picked up
Rusty paint can cover found on the streets of New Hampshire
Rusty wire spool found by a construction site in New York City
Wheel of fortune: rust and patina found on the streets of New York
Objet d'arte, nearly four feet long, from trash to treasure
Detail...does it get any better than this?
I found what I was looking for when I opened my eyes!
Ingredients: paper, acrylic paint, dye ink, text. 5 1/4" x 2 1/2" end-to-end. click to enlarge.

Ha! I have to admire another "one of us" that's picks up garbage in the street. Not to throw it away. Oh, no! But to use it in some art project or other. Artistic ragpickers, that's us. Congrats on these great finds. - jeanne in Oregon
Love looking at your post today of your many found treasures of the street. As another soul who also loves to find gifts in our streets that call out for us to take them home, all is really in the eyes of the beholder and what our needs are at the time we see them. Great hauls of goodies to revel in and enjoy. The tones, color, textures and patterns of detail are mesmerizing as is the rust that gives each find a special uniqueness all their own. Such amazing finds which really lets us see the keen wide open eyes that you have. That too is a wonderful treasure.
oooh lots of rusty goodies!
I'm curious, what is that long thing anyway? Some kind of radiator? or grille?
Great rusty stuff! Artists find the beauty in the most mundane junk and there is nothing better than a good street-find.
YAY! Another rust/junk-finds lover. Sheer bliss in your wonderful finds. Woot!
Peace & Love,
~Barb~
Hi Seth, Happy New Year! Great post with lots of terrific rusty eye candy... I'm with you... if I just look around, open my eyes, and be "open" to the possibilities, I'm usually pleasantly surprised. Thanks for sharing, looking forward to seeing what you do with some of those rusted objets d'artes! (My husband and I are in discussion about the correct spelling of my attempt at written french... I don't think the 'es' belongs on the end of d'art... at any rate, you get the idea, right?!?) :D xoxo, K.
Wow Seth. NYC must be a veritable gold mine of rusted found objects. And I mean amazing, beautiful RFOs. The ones here take my breath away. You must have quite a stash by now. And what is that piece that's over 4 feet tall? I've never seen anything like it. It's so very interesting.
i don't think it could possibly get much better than that.... :)
This is a rusty feast, Seth !
Thank you for helping me open my eyes today.
Amazing street art and your finds are beautiful. The tin can lid-gorgeous. You've found so many different colors too...
I can't tell you the number of times I have seen things like that on the ground and just walked past them. The rust is so vibrant but I never made the conection between it and using it in my own art. I do pick up broken pieces of crockery and old coins though. In the UK there was a change of currency in the 1970s so you never know when you can find something a little different in the coin stakes.
I know that rust is the topic of the day, but that opening graphic just made me gasp. If I could high-five you, I would!...it's amazing. I can see it in my house. I hope it's really BIG.
Thanks for the morning blast of visual energy. We can always count on YOU!
wow ! I got it ! I will keep an eye (or 2) open !
I can't wait to be in New-York !
Many thanks for your advice. I have now my art trip ! I find some classes at creative pier.
Take care.

VERY neat. I love the first one, too!
I'm forever picking things up along the way. My pockets are always full of stones and various "junk".
SO true Seth, you have a good eye indeed! We Love rescuing 'stuff', it feels good to know it has a chance at a new life! You really do have some primo rusty stuff there!
Keeping my eyes open = thanks for the reminder!
What great finds!!!! and I love what you create from those finds!! The city is definitely a veritable goldmine-out here in the country, walking with eyes to the ground leads one to many fab rusty treasures!! I would love to send you a complimentary box of art-worthy 'farm debris', if you would like. I know you could turn it into something wonder-full!!!
You find great stuff! thanks for the reminder to see with an open mind!

Wow, you've found some beautiful things Seth. What is that tall rusty piece? It's magnificent. I love finding treasure also.
It certainly makes life more interesting doesn't it? Being aware and always searching for treasure. I looooove that rusty radiator type thing!
The top image is very eyecatching too.
I love all of your rusty treasures...rust is so wonderful to use in art...lovely energies I am sure are carried with each piece.

There's a guy here in Akron who has literally been in one part of a house scavanging while in the other end they were tearing it down!
Bet you could find super treasures here in post-industrial Ohio! Your finds are lovely!
Ohhhhhh...I am so drooling over your new wheel of fortune and object d'art, Seth. Terrific finds, art in themselves, and I'm looking forward to seeing what you will do with them.
One of the best things about taking walks is finding things. Rusty things are my favourite too. Great post, Seth!
