A Cafe Giveaway

Happy to share that my work was recently featured in Artists' Cafe Volume 9. This yearly publication from Stampington & Company culls articles from previous issues of Somerset StudioSew Somerset, Art Journaling, Somerset Apprentice, and Somerset Workshop. This is one of my favorite magazines as it it really is like a "greatest hits" issue. And because the articles comes from 5 different magazines, there is a wonderful variety in the projects that are shared. For example, this issue highlights encaustic work from Serena Barton, art journal pages from Finnabair, mixed media work from Lynne Perrella, stamp carving from Pam Carriker, journaling from Dina Wakley, and so many more.

My project featured in the magazine was from a collaboration I completed with Sarah Whitmire between 2008 and 2011. We each created our own handmade and handbound books, which we traded back and forth via mail for the three years of the project. Our theme was nature and sometimes we created our own pages and other times we both worked on the same page.

Here is a glimpse into my book...

It seems that you would have to have a lot of faith in a person to turn over your work and say, "here, do whatever you want to this." Beautiful collaboration.

Another beautiful collaboration Seth! I was inspired by the collaboration that you and Jill had and started some sort of 'back and forth' book with another artist last year... it is very inspiring and so much fun to find new pages in my mailbox that I 'respond' to... we work on it for a year now and we're not planning to stop sometime soon... I love it! I would also love to see your work and read the article in this Sommerset magazine so please count me in your draw. Have a great week, hugs from Holland (P.S. Thanx for your email about the creative books... it/you helped a lot!)

I can see this book being carried around the Shire by a young hobbit asking if someone will take him and this book to Rivendell for the fairies to decode and interpret the meaning of the elements of each page so he can learn of the power of these mysterious symbols and marks. Enchanted, nothing short of enchanted.

I love the subtle colors you've chosen. They remained me of many walks taken in the early spring or late fall. The shapes you have usse are very evocative of a specific time or place in nature. The textures you use remind me of benchmark or the humus of leaves and plants on the forest floor.
