Inspiration Board III

I keep an Inspiration Board on the wall above my computer. It is in my sights often as I seem to be spending more and more time online these days. I change it up as the mood strikes. Right now, it is mainly filled with art created by other artists. In fact, my inspiration board is a veritable who's who of the art blogging world. Recognize anybody's work??? Or maybe your own???

I have twice before posted versions of my Board. Click the dates below to see the original posts. And click on any picture to enlarge. In looking at all three pictures, one thing that strikes me is that my inspiration seems to be very well organized. One of these days I think I will set up my Board in a more chaotic explosion of paper and colors!

February 2008

August 2007

If you have your own version of an Inspiration Board, feel free to post a picture on your blog and leave the link in the comments to this post!

What a great idea!! I get inspired by what I see online- putting it all out in front of you, makes perfect sense! I just happen to have a blank wall in front of my computer.............!!!

Your boards are stunning. I love to see the changes over time too. I used to have an inspiration basket full off natural bits and pieces - interesting twigs, feathers, stones, shells, etc - until I borught back a stick with a spider's egg sack on it. I didn't know it was there until I found hundreds of baby spiders stalking round the room. I stopped collecting then ;o)

Love your boards! What are they made of? I really love the "order" you have created with them. Very calming to look at.

I have a bedroom wall full of blogland friends art, last thing I see at night, first thing I see in the morning. Such a fix keeps me in the creative flow all the time.

Yours are beautiful to behold!

Wish I had room for one of these Seth±

How great to have the photographic record of your inspiration. I keep three ring binders of inspiration; colors, a shape that draws my eye, the work of other artists, a design layout, a found feather... I see your cool color choices, organic edges in an asymmetrical grid as a theme. I myself am a fan of “organic” organized by grid. And of course, when ever I visit your blog I find inspiration freely given and shared by you Seth! Thank you.

I've got an inspiration board too but it is not nearly as cohesive and gorgeous as yours! Methinks I need to remedy that soon.

Such stunning work you have displayed there!

That's a work of art in and of itself!

ArtPropelled said...

The enlarged photos are a feast for the eyes Seth and as Kelly mentioned, a work of art in itself.

That's a feast for the eyes. I wish I had the room to start one of my own! Great idea.

I love Obama and how he is inspiring so many, but your inspiraton boards are the greatest stimulation packages of them all!

Each piece on your board is a work of art -conveying a feeling, a thought, an idea expressed. Thanks for sharing your third Inspiration Board! I expect this will inspire so many of us to create or update our own inspiration boards!

Super idea, thanks for sharing, nice work on your Blog;o)

I've got a wall as such - backed with velvet that I place upon the most gorgeous stuff that inspires me. I must admit, it's been a while since I updated it. You've got me inspired enough with your beautiful boards, to keep it up. I can see now, my wall doesn't contain nearly enough inspiring stuff, lol!

I dug back...WAY back, to my June 29th 2007 post and there it was, my wreck-of-an-inspiration wall:

I love these Seth. What fun to gaze at all the creativity. I have wanted to do one for a while, after seeing how cool yours looks I think I just might have to - and one of the first pieces to add will be the wonderful piece I received from you today. I love it!!

Love your name by the way, my middle son's name is Seth.

Blessings!

Excellent post and in itself an inspiration... Mmmm. And a good idea. LOL.
My journey is taking me on different paths each time I see and or do something. I am sure you know what I mean, having seen these boards of yours, Seth.
Take care and get more of what you love.

Wow... your inspiration board is wonderful... so much color and contrast of styles and feelings. You have such a gift for design, Seth... hope your weekend is great... my summer started today! Roxanne

Seth, I love your inspiration board/art gallery. The way you've organized them makes it a unified piece.

It *is* curious to see how orderly your board is, though when looking at your artwork, you see that you seem to have a very linear eye, so I guess that would make sense!

My own board is a chaotic jumble of images, numbers, cards, etc, etc...not sure what that says about me!

I love seeing all the different pictures of different artists. Something like this would be a great idea. Where do you get all these fabulous pictures to put up?

an Inspiration Board after my own heart ... I have grid-like tendencies, myself ... and love the appeal of it (but have to say that I almost always toss just one little thing slightly askew ... ok, make that at a 45 degree angle). :)

... and I should also probably admit that my inspiration "board(s)" overfloweth ... filling nooks, crannies, wall spaces around my computer desk, pockets of walls, here and there, tops of shelves, attached to the sides of bookcases, stacked on top of framed pieces of art, hung on skinny wall spaces ... and on and on and on ...

Jeane Myers said...

wow, each block of your inspiration board looks like a piece of art - it's all so neat and very reminiscent of your artwork - even though you use so many techniques on a piece, your work still has an order about it.

Unknown said...

These are beautiful. Far more ordered than mine! I feel another share coming on.......might have to go and tidy up my board in a minute.

Looking round my workroom I can see three boards covered with postcards of other peoples work, bits cut from magazines, photos, etc. One board is behind the door which is usually open so I never see it, the other two are gradually disappearing behind ever growing towers of containers of inks, stamps and other art materials and equipment. Time to make a change I think. Thanks for sharing your boards - they are indeed inspirational.

Organised, organised seems an understatement! But it looks wonderful though, and as organised as it is,the groupings work really well. So, I'll play too. Yes I use one, but not like yours, more chaotic! Pics are up on the blog. Love yours though, its more of an evolving piece of art!

Seth - honestly, you've got to stop with these ideas I can't resist. A portion of my week now seems to include what I have been refering to in my head as "Seth time." Your boards are so, well, organized. Artful. Mine is a spilling of things. Stuck up with anything handy, lately the dulled needles from my longarm. Heading to the board, camera in hand.

Seth,
Wow. Do you line those pictures up with a ruler? Eventually I'll get Susan to put up pictures of our Inspiration Boards (at least 5) on my blog and you'll see what real slobs we are.

I will shoot a new photo tomorrow of the inspirations I have in my new cleared studio...we are still sorting clothes I thought I might need but I will never need. You give so much to us as we all individually search for an authentic voice. I am so glad you liked our fused glass class last week...those ladies are free spirits who jumped right in with the encouragement of a glass of wine! Your inspiration boards are amazing. Vibrant with color, brimming with possibilities. I got together with a bunch of friends in January and we made Vision Boards - but I like the fluid nature of your inspiration board (my VB is all glued down and permanent - well, nothing is really permanent, is it!). Here's a link http://alleyartstudio.blogspot.com/2009/01/vision-boards-celebration.html

This is a wonderful idea. I have OPA (other people's art) hanging from a mobile in my ofc/art room. But I really like this because you can see all of it at the same time. It is its own art!!!

what a great wall of inspiration, I'm rather chaotic in such things but oddly enough I like your latest 'ordered' board, the colours work together really well.

I wonder how many times I've said "Wow" when I visit your blog to see the latest post(s). This is very inspiring indeed, Seth!!! How wonderful to have so much to look at here and there throughout the day.

Several large binders are full of my very favorite images tucked into those protective transparent sheets and many more are digital that I try to keep organized in folders. There is a large iron gate behind my computer desk and I will definitely be putting some images up on there with magnets. Thanks!!! : )

Yeah, the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the picture was - WOW, it's so organized! LOL Now normally I'm a very organized person, in fact I'm sure many of my friends and family would use the term anal-retentive. But not on my board!
Yours are a feast for the eye.

inspiration board? what about inspiration walls?! you should see my studio.....my walls are lined with artists whose works really inspire me. Squeak Carnwath, Nicholas Wilton, Matt Flint, Jeanie Tomanek, and katherine dunn are a few that are up there.

You know what?
I have more of an inspiration board at my office than at my dismantled studio, right now. I'm going to see if I can get a photo of my office walls to you. I am constantly putting stuff up there and moving it around...

Your boards look so great!

My whole studio is one big inspiration board.... little bits of colour and design stuck up everywhere.... and i too have a yin and yang of order and chaos in my workspace :)

Your board is so neat and tidy Seth! i am wondering what that says about you.

I looked and was inspired ~ I looked again and saw a tiny bit of my work on your inspiration board!
How cool to see the way the board has changed over the years. This is such a good idea. I have an inspiration table with work and items I love, and right now I kind of have an inspiration floor. Time to do some cleaning!

fun stuff! i was just trying to dig mine up because i took everything off the walls to paint awhile back and rather than finding it, found myself distracted with a 3ft x 5ftish painting i started a long time ago. i will keep hunting or use this inspirational opportunity to start a new one. :)
