The Sweater Children

Do you know about the sweater children? They are the creation of artist and friend Don Madden from Fully Flummoxed

If you do not know the story behind this powerful work of art, take a few minutes to read about it here.

In addition to the children in this piece, Don made about 60 more.

He recently decided to share these with the world and has sent each child to people all over the world. The brief: leave them in public in a secret place in hopes that somebody will find them and give them a good home.

I was lucky enough to get one and placed in on a bench in Central Park in NYC.

Looks like this story does indeed have a happy ending as days later, he had been found!

Hi Seth ~ I just returned from Don Madden's blog and found it so very moving and interesting...

It must have felt really special to place your sweater child in the park and then find it had moved on ...

Seth,
I just read Don's story about the Sweater Children. It gave me goose bumps. How sad that so many tiny lives were lost that day as well as the nuns who cared for them. But...how happy it made me to read what now is being done with the remaining sweater children. Such a wonderful idea knowing they will be found. I love that Don's piece of art depicts the tragedy of that day even as the nuns tried to save the children and I love that you chose to put it in your book.
So glad I stopped by and found out about this story.

And some think that art has no value! It sends a powerful message and that gives me hope! Blessings

This is a wonderful project, and the tragedies of the children so poignant. Maybe some of the pieces will move internationally... it is possible.

Seth, you know I'm about as sentimental as a pet rock, but this is touching and sweet, and so beautiful in its simplicity that I must go tell Don himself.

Don't pretend you don't remember pet rocks.
