31 artists...31 days. Spend every day of March with me at The Altered Page to meet the 31 spotlight artists in my book The Pulse of Mixed Media: Secrets and Passions of 100 Artists Revealed. See their beautiful faces, read their 'quirky' bios written in their own words, see some of their art that led me to invite them to be a part of my book, and hear my story of what they each mean to me. Then click on over to their sites and see what they have to say about The Pulse of Mixed Media.
------------------------------------
I am a creator of things, a maker of images, a weaver of words. I seek peace and stillness in the worlds that I create.
Memories and experiences are sewn together, bound with thread, painted and layered with fire and wax.
My work is a vision of where I have been, who I am now, and a vision of what I am becoming.
The rest will be written as the story unfolds.
------------------------------------
I discovered Bridgette very early on in my life as a blogger: just one month after I started The Altered Page. I am not sure how I came across her blog, as is often the case, but I immediately knew I found a gem. In fact, I emailed her and asked about purchasing one of her paintings, which now very happily lives on my wall. We have been blog friends ever since. We have also been creative collaborators, working along with Jen Worden on a project that produced three pieces of art: Book of Trees, Shine and Contexture. The experience was a pleasure.
As luck would have it, I travelled to Chicago for a weekend back in October 2011 and was able to spend a wonderful morning with Bridgette. She was just as I had imagined and it felt like we had been friends all along. We found ourselves in similar situations, and spent time talking about making art, publishing, exhibiting, teaching, career directions, and life in general. My only regret about that day was that our time together was too short. But I will be back to visit again at some point and hopefully we will have time to see more than just "The Bean."

Seth it's just two days in and already I can feel my 'self' expanding with possibilities. To see the kind of art that I aspire to and be inspired by...that gets me going. My muse gets all fidgety and excited. So thanks for this!!! *smiles* Norma

Well the comments are pouring in.
I called Barnes and Nobles this morning to learn the book will not be in that store until the very end of March. so still I wait. somewhat patiently. But I did see my page (128) shared with another artist. It's so exciting I could spit. LOL
Bridgette G. Mill's art is very very beautiful. I love the stitched fabric under wax making up a beautiful bound book. What a delightful friendship you two have. What did we ever do before computers and blogs?

Ms. Mills is one of my favorite encaustic artists!! So happy to see her here!!
Not only do I greatly admire Bridgette's art (the paintings and the handbound books), but I read her blog religiously. I am also honored to be associated with her through our membership in FusedChicago, the association of painters who love working with encaustics. Bridgette has been so very generous problem solving with me about using encaustic wax and plaster. She is a quietly shining gem :) ~Denise
Thanks for introducing us to Bridgette. I love the look of her art and I'm off to check out more of it now!
I love the quiet majesty with which Bridgette's work presents itself. I love the use of earth tones in her work: some muted , some striking. With the stark, layered beauty of natural elements informing much of the work shown here, one gets a real feeling for Bridgette's imaginative worldview, and sense of place.
Bridgette is a gem and I can see how much her style resonates with yours. I can't wait to see the book Seth. Congratulations!
I can see that my blogroll is going to be a lot longer by the end of this month!

and wordlessness is a very good state to be in
Great choice. And the sentence: "I am a creator of things, a maker of images, a weaver of words.", is so poetic!
Bridgette is as unique and special as each piece of her art. I met her one time and came away as if we were old friends. I look forward to seeing her again in May at a workshop she is teaching! Can't wait to read more about her in the book!
