Hey I'm Jen Crossley from the Land of Oz (Australia). A woman of many talents, and a master of none I must say. I'm all smoke and mirrors.
Dazzle them with big words and techniques I say, and most importantly have fun with what you do.

Jen's blog is called A Mark in Time and I think that is the perfect name. Her artwork conjures up a sense of history, mystery and intrigue. Each and every piece seems to have its own story to tell and seems to capture a moment in time. Her list of ingredients include pieces of metal, sometimes rusted and sometimes etched by hand, vintage tintypes, assorted found objects, and the like. Her creations, whether miniature books, assemblages or jewelry all call my name.
Timing is everything and with Jen, her timing couldn't have been better. She is from Australia and one of her goals and dreams has been to teach a workshop in the USA. Earlier this month her dream came true. And I was able to meet up with her for a few hours when she passed through NYC. I showed her the book, and her published artwork, for the first time. Priceless. Jen couldn't have been any nicer, any more generous, or any more gracious. And she assured me that when she called me a dag, she meant it in the most endearing of ways. Thanks Jen...you're a dinkum cobber!

Hey, the Aussies are invading and, yes I'm one too! All nationalism aside, I love Jen Crossman's work. We don't have the long list of retreats and such available in the U.S, - sigh - not to mention art supplies, so I am happy Jen got her wish. Thanks, Seth, for all the wonderful artists you are featuring.

Jen Crossley appears to be a historian and archivalist with a hammer and a pair of wire cutters! I particularly love her work which combines found metal pieces, and natural elements such as twigs or bone. Wonderful contrasts, and lovely textures, to befound here! She says that she is "all smoke and mirrors," but her work belies this statement, identifying her as the real thing, indeed! Perhaps the "smoke and mirrors" refers to the element of mystery that is evident in the stories she tells through these lovely pieces. . . .and I love her statement: "Love what you do and it will show in your art and your life."
Well, I have to disagree with Jen. I don't see any "smoke and mirrors" here. Jen's work is all the real stuff to me. What intricate metal work and detail here. So very original. Just love the "Gimbels Brothers" sign as well. These days, I need to "google" a new phrase or word on each of your posts- "dinkum cobber"! Not only am I discovering new and amazing talented artists, I am learning a whole new vocabulary! Thanks Seth!

LOVE WHAT YOU DO, AND HAVE FUN WITH WHAT YOU DO. Thank you Jen for reminding me of what I've been trying to do but sometimes forget. Love and fun. Good stuff. I just came across a bag of bleached chicken bones that I'd wrapped with wire at each end and pasted the words "I have travelled" on to (well one bone anyway). Maybe I'll get going on what it was originally meant for. This month has been one of inspiration for me. Thank you for this Seth! *smiles* Norma

It's great to see that we have quite a few talented Aussies. Jen's work is very personal and intimate. There is so much heart in each piece, and the reference to her beloved mum is part of that.
