I gravitate toward analogous colors, darkened hues, and monochromatic palettes rather than a bright cartoony plethora of paints which I find too distracting.

Julie may come from The Land of Lost Luggage but I was thrilled when I found her blog way back when. Julie is an artist, photographer, gemologist (who knew), workshop instructor, and soon to be author. We have pretty much been in contact in every way possible online and by phone but never in-person. But that is about to change as Julie is making the nearly 3,000 mile trek from San Diego to NYC (or from the country to the city as I like to say) to be part of my upcoming artist panel at The Ink Pad later this month.
I have had the pleasure to collaborate with Julie and Lynne Hoppe on two projects: Graffiti Wall 2009 and 2010. During those years of collaboration I got to know Julie quite well and we have had many-a-conversation about the more challenging aspects of being artists and bloggers today. I am happy to be part of Artists for Respect, an effort spearheaded by Julie. I have always appreciated her willingness to take a stand and share her voice, no matter how difficult the issue. Even better, her "realness" is evident in her art, which really resonates with me.

I too am part of the Artists for Respect Movement - after learning about it from Julie. A few years back, I took an on-line class from her which was wonderful. I used the canvases made for several of my later works. Love all of the different variations in style with each of the artists' you've been showcasing! I too can't wait to meet Julie at the Ink Pad later this month!!
Julie is another artist I love. Every time I look at one of her pieces I become inwardly focused, soothed and challenged all at the same time. I didn't know she started the Artists for Respect effort. Very cool.

I've loved Julie's work from back in the 'good old days', when both our sites were young, and she actually wondered if she should have her lovely countenance on the web. And I've seen her huge explosion in art exploration, teaching and business, and it's been a motivating force. I've taken three of her courses and enriched my work through all of them. I wish I could be there to see her in real life action.
Because she won't answer her door or her phone. Probably has a peep hole and caller ID.

Julie's beautiful soul very much comes through in all she does and I have never met her or actually spoken to her.....looking forward to it.

Seth, the swiftness and bounty of visuals on the net sure have opened our eyes to what is out there in this world of ours; and it opens our art to the world so instantly. In my small blog world where we trade a.t.c.s' and paper artdolls and tags and such our artistic selves venture forth and often I hear of 'copying' and I don't have tons to say about it here, but I was reminded here, that I've said to my daughter that once you put something on line you are lucky to 'own' it for 6 minutes, never mind the 6 years it took to get your vision/style/take/color etc. I am grateful that Julie and like minds such as yourself are educating folk about 'copying.' *smiles* Norma

It seems as though in "The Land of Lost Luggage," you never know what you might find: the layered surfaces and rich patinas revealing hidden secrets, as the reward of careful observation!
