31 artists...31 days. Spend every day of March with me at The Altered Page to meet the 31 spotlight artists in my book The Pulse of Mixed Media: Secrets and Passions of 100 Artists Revealed. See their beautiful faces, read their 'quirky' bios written in their own words, see some of their art that led me to invite them to be a part of my book, and hear my story of what they each mean to me. Then click on over to their sites and see what they have to say about The Pulse of Mixed Media.

Once upon a time there was a red-haired girl who loved to read & write, & felt that art should be for everyone.
She made this & that (& called it all ragtags), in a little house where the prairie ends & the mountains begin & the skies are the bluest of blues...&
she thanked her lucky star, for every single day.

Sarah Fishburn is yet another artist that I first "met" through True Colors. She is one of the originals. I have continued to be a fan of her work since that time, enjoying her blog, her books and her sensational zine that she publishes along with Angela Cartwright: Pasticcio Quartz. Sarah infuses her artwork and her life with an abundance of color. She is amazing at creating layer upon layer in her work, a process that is near and dear to my heart.
I met Sarah in person several years ago during one of her visits to NYC. We met in Central Park and spent part of a day wandering around the neighborhoods of the city. Of the wonderful qualities that Sarah possesses (and there are many), the one that impressed me the most was her generosity. We spoke about our journeys as artists and she offered me an endless amount of advice, wisdom, and direction. Spending an hour in Barnes and Noble with Sarah, wandering among the books and talking, was a priceless experience I will never forget. Happily I will be seeing her again in April when my book tour takes me to Colorado. Maybe we can find a few minutes to head to bookstore again Sarah!

At Art Fest many moons ago I met Sarah, What a fun and lovely artist. Lucky you to get to spend time with her on your book tour.
I did not know Sarah before today. Interesting new artist for me. Thanks for the introduction!
Seth - there's def a Barnes and Noble here, but! There's also a very cool bookstore in the Old Firehouse...
Hey Leslie!
Thanks to you and Bill for lovely compliments.
And nice to "meet" you, Rebecca...
Sarah's art takes me on a journey of the hopeless romantic, to yesteryear where life is floral and art is a consuming passion. How lovely.
I remember the beginning of my Internet art explorations some years ago - I saw Sarah's works and I was speechless. it was as if a brand new world opened. I always smile when I see her name.
I loved reading Sarah's quirky bio.... and wandered off into my own little world thinking about the little house where the prairie ends & the mountains begin.
I really enjoyed Sarah's bio and visiting her blog..Thank you for these 31/31 days I have been introduced to new artist in an area that is very rare here in TN..
What refreshing artistry to wake up to this morning! Every day is a thrilling day waking up to new artists. Sarah is another breath of fresh air and inspiration.
Sarah is very sweet. She has always been very kind to me. We were in Artsmiths together. (A mixed media artists' network group.) What I love about Sarah's work is that it's quirky. I can tell instantly that it's hers. It's very distinctive.
I agree Seth, Sarah is one of the most generous people that you will ever meet, which is evident in the way that, like you, she promotes other artists... she is also one of the most fascinating people I have ever met, a fabulous story teller and an amazing writer... I am so blessed to have her as a dear friend...
ps I agree with the Old Firehouse!
You all just made this artist's day, thank you! Want to hear what questions I hope Seth will be answering soon? Go to my blog; I'll meet ya there ❤
I'm off to meet Sarah! Thanks so much for the introduction!
How exciting to meet Sarah and her work. I'm off to happily explore...
23 years ago, I met Sarah and knew that she'd be an important person in my life. She brought brilliance and enthusiasm to my store and continues to evolve and amaze.
I have been a long time admirer of Sarah's work, she is always a great inspiration.
I forgot how much I enjoyed Sarah's work and blog. Thanks for reminding me.
Thanks for the introduction to Sarah - I'll enjoy following her art and wonderful collages.
Layering is an artform in itself I think! I'm not a natural as the saying goes, at this layering idea. I sure love it and aspire to it. So far I'm at layer 1.5 and maybe 2 so I've got a long way to go. I'm looking forward to a visit with Sarah's blog and links that you've given. Thanks Seth! *smiles* Norma
i have seen Sarah's work, as I am a lover of True Colors. So fine she is in your wonderful book. Love this work.
interesnfe works! cause sense of nostalgia!!!:)
These are just wonderful. I came over from another blog this time and I'm glad that I did because she described your life (both professions) so vividly and showed lots of photos of your "neighborhood". Thanks for all the hard work. I have a better appreciation of where the pieces I purchased from you have come from now!
thanks for the introduction, enjoy the layering in Sarah's work, something I can really relate to, so much to see.
Sarah Fishburn sounds like an artist's artist! Creating her art in a place "where the prairie ends & the mountains begin," her work reflects this study in contrasts. I especially love that though she uses 'layers' as so many mixed media artists do, many of her layers are transparent or translucent, so that the mystery of what lies beneath is not completely hidden, but only partially obscured, inviting us all to further exploration!
I have seen Sarah's name here there and everywhere in the last few years. So nice that I am taking the time to travel the world of Seth's book and actually introducing myself to so many wonderful artists. So many points of view, so many styles.
Again and again, it is fun meeting more artists from THE BOOK! Love her questions for YOU. Will we see the answers?
i LOVE sarah's work, and have several pasticcio issues...
you truly have THE best selection of artists in your book, seth :)
I love Sarah and her art and hope that one day I can meet her in person! I am so excited that she is in this fabulous book and I can learn more about her. Thanks for this post Seth, it's a great one!!

You ALL warm the cockles of my heart!
What I've always liked about Sarah's work is the variety!
I love Sarah Fishburn's work. I own a copy of two of her books "In this House2 and "in this garden". It just so happens I took them out of my library last week for some inspiration.
Art SHOULD be for everyone but, alas, it is often elitist and unapproachable. Not with Sarah's tho'
Sarah, I just love your work- it always makes me smile. Received my copy of the book and so glad to be in it with you. You are the most generous of artists- when I didn't even know what an ATC was, you had sent me a whole package full- and I am always grateful!! I too hope one day that we'll be able to meet. Such a treat learning so much more about everyone through The Pulse!
good to meet Sarah, lovely colorful layers.
Thanks for introducing me to yet another artist I have never heard of.
Aloha, Kate

Sarah is another artist that I have followed. Her work is very intriguing. I love her layers too. Thanks for featuring her today on your blog. I enjoyed reading about your adventures with her when you met. I know the creative energy I feel when meeting with the members of the book artist group that I am a part of. It's so much fun to get together with other artists!
I'm really torn...there are so many interesting people to explore here and that makes for so little time to make art myself. Love Sarah's work.
