31/31: Vivian Paans [Bonder]

31 artists...31 days. Spend every day of March with me at The Altered Page to meet the 31 spotlight artists in my book The Pulse of Mixed Media: Secrets and Passions of 100 Artists Revealed. See their beautiful faces, read their 'quirky' bios written in their own words, see some of their art that led me to invite them to be a part of my book, and hear my story of what they each mean to me. Then click on over to their sites and see what they have to say about The Pulse of Mixed Media.
------------------------------------
I create from a space of silence and solitude...

A space where at times emotional turbulence and noise are ruling...

Where intense happiness and suffering meet face to face...

A space where I am balanced within myself, between extremes and feeling grateful to be alive.

------------------------------------

I have been trying to remember when I first 'met' Viv and found her blog. I can barely remember a time as a blogger when I didn't know her. I did find an email from back in July 2008, when I wrote to Viv to say how happy I was that we were both in the same issue of Artful Blogging. Since then we have 'shared' so much more, including our Self Contained collaboration with Stephanie McAtee. I absolutely love Viv's approach to art making and her style -- filled with color, symbols, grunge, drips and splatters. I happen to love her accent too!

Viv is so far away from me geographically (more than 10,000 miles from NYC to WA Australia) but I feel very connected to her as if she were next door. Despite living on the opposite ends of the earth, we have had many experiences in common, not the least of which is therapy - with me being a psychologist and Viv currently studying transpersonal art therapy. Somehow Viv and I know that we are destined to meet in person, despite the distance. It is just a matter of time.

Vivian doesn't post on her blog very often does she? :) But i poked around a little bit and found some art. I like the idea of her 'tree'. Wish i could have found a picture that showed the whole tree. Interesting idea. Thanks so much for the introduction Seth.

You know what I love most about the 31/31 posts? That it brings "life" to the names and photos of the artist's work that we may have seen in the past from your blog. It's great to see so much more of an encompassing package of who these wonderful artists are. Just love Vivian's use of color and the textures of her work shown! Lucky you to have collaborated with Vivian!

Vivian's colours are vibrant and deep and alive. That alone is great...but then you have the depth of texture so that I want to 'feel' her art. I love the grey palettes in art. AND I love the colour palettes. Sheesh! I think I love it all. *smiles* Norma

Vivian's work incorporates amazing textures and colors. There is a character of richness and warmth, here, which is undeniable. I love the shimmering hues, and wonderful detail of her 'Transformation Box' project, in the book, and her words about the creative and personal benefits of dealing with anger "in a positive and respectful way. . ."! It leads one to believe that 'avoidance' of our own negative emotions is not the best choice!

thanks for the intro to yet another!

Seth, so good to be introduced to a fellow Australian. Off to visit Vivien now.

I love her book. The materials and details are wonderful. More than that they just speak to my soul.

Suzanne Bouchard said...

I think Vivian is a color fairy! or maybe she met one. her work speaks to me in the sense that I see sensitivity just by looking at the first picture of one of her creations. I am talking about the book that we see from the bottom. I love the colors and texture of that book without even knowing what is in it.

love viv's honesty, textures, and soul in her work!
