Words of Wisdom

A Day of Sharing Words

Beginning by James Wright

The moon drops one or two feathers into the fields.
The dark wheat listens.
Be still.
Now.
There they are, the moon's young, trying
Their wings.
Between trees, a slender woman lifts up the lovely shadow
Of her face, and now she steps into the air, now she is gone
Wholly, into the air.
I stand alone by an elder tree, I do not dare breathe
Or move.
I listen.
The wheat leans back toward its own darkness,
And I lean toward mine.

Lovely poem and lovely photo Seth.
I wrote all my term papers on such a machine! ;-) So much white tape or erasers too. Remember that?
Judy Wise has a great poem today too on her blog.

Your poem left me undone: "the wheat leans toward its own darkness."

Sigh.

So lovely! Thank you.

A hundred million years ago, when I was young, I used to type on a machine very similar to the one in your photo. Thank you for the trip back into memory and for sharing a new, very moving poem with me.
