Gelli Plate Printing - giveaway

The Gelli Plate has taken the art world by storm and has created a whole new category of addictive behavior. Anybody who has used one of the Gelli Plates knows just how much paper and paint one can go through in a session of printing. This product is not only useful and innovative...it is fun!

And now the developer of the Gelli Plate, Joan Bess, has released a new book Gelli Plate Printing: Mixed-Media Monoprinting Without a Press. Consider this the definitive guide to Gelli Plate printing in terms of instruction, ideas, and projects.

I asked Joan to share a bit about how the development of the Gelli Plate came about and she had this to share with the readers of The Altered Page:

Years ago I fell in love with gelatin printing and the fascinating range of monotypes it creates. I loved everything about the process...except the gelatin! Too many negatives for me. So I looked for a convenient, permanent, durable, shelf-stable gelatin-like replacement. It didn't exist! The obvious answer was to find a way to create the monoprinting plate I was obsessed with having.

The pivotal moment came when I invited my friend. Lou Ann Gleason, a seasoned businesswoman with virtually no art experience, to my studio to print on gelatin. She LOVED it! When I proposed joining forces to find a way to make a better printing plate - she immediately said "YES"! She could envision so many people wanting this!

We formed our company, Gelli Arts, LLC - and a year later, launched our Gel Printing Plate. Thanks to Nancy Kelly, our social media expert, word traveled quickly across the Internet and Gelli printing spread like wildfire! When Tonia Jenny, from North Light Books, approached me and asked if I was interested in writing a 'techniques' book about Gelli printing, I jumped at the opportunity! And here it is!

In the book, Joan introduces a series of approaches that will take your printing to another level. She reviews stencils, masks, rubber and foam stamps, natural materials, rubbing plates, rollers, rubber bands, tape, contact paper, molding paste, gel medium resist, dimensional paint, and so much more.

In addition, the book includes a contributor gallery of art showing how different artists use the Gelli Plate. I am honored to have been asked by Joan to be part of that group and I created The Climb.
