Rolodecks
I love old school office supplies and was excited to see the new release of Address Book from Spellbinders, which included these rolodex card dies, along with some very cool label dies that I will be using for another project. I didn't let the fact that I did not have a rolodex stop me!
Rather than use my own hand painted paper, I decided to raid my supply of Artists' Paper that comes free within the pages of so many wonderful Stampington & Company magazines. Thanks to all those artists who contributed! These pages are one sided, so I started off by gluing two pages back to back.
I then used the Grand Caibur® Machine to die cut my first card.
For this project I made 23 cards, with the tabs varying from left to center to right.
Since I did not have a rolodex, I needed something else to store the cards in. I found this box in my stash -- it had been waiting years to be used in the perfect project.
Perfect fit! Time to collage..

I gathered my materials from my ever-growing supply of "stuff", which included ephemera, magazine clippings, stickers, rub-ons, stamps, and the like. I also used a number of small die cuts from Spellbinders.
I dove in and when I came up for air, I had completed all 23 cards.

I love this because it has your imprint all over it!
This is so much fun! I really want to hold it and pull all those cards out one by one. This really looks like one of those projects to get lost in... cutting, pasting, stenciling, etc. and forgetting to eat, brush your teeth, or look at the clock. My kind of project!

Okay Seth, we have to meet. As soon as I saw that "perfect box you'd been saving for years" I knew we had the best of the best art-craziness in common. Aren't boxes and cardboard grand? I work at a store so you can imagine the excitement when I find something to alter, or my frustration to know I can't bring everything home. I actually like these cards in the box better than a rolodex. (hey, I used to have one of those...) Your cards and box are wonderful!
Seth! I love your collage work on these. I think it's some of your best work. The contrasts, colours and compositions are top notch!
Very cool project. A few years back I was in a rolodex exchange with some fellow artists. We each created cards (decorated, of course) with our information and sent them to everyone in the group. So much nicer than a plain old white card. I love the idea of a die to cut the cards, because the ones I bought at Staples were so flimsy I had to glue three of them together. Question: will the die work in other machines? I have the Sizzix Vagabond.

Wow, What a meander. So many of those photos have a beautiful abstract feel to them. After I got over that layer, I was able to appreciate the art work!

What a brilliant way to create a colourful box of art. Great use of the dies, much more cost effective than buying a Rolodex (esp here in the UK). BTW I've just watched your mixed media DVDs and can't wait to have a try at the techniques. Have a good weekend. Px

Looking at this project reminds me about the Dream Box for the May workshop in Portland Or I plan to attend. I better get started collecting snippets from magazines and books, painted papers, etc. time to start packing my suitcase...good thing we are driving this trip! I'll only have to "check my bags" in the trunk of the car! Getting excited!
